Missions
When we talk about ‘Missions’ within the church we are not just talking about foreign mission work that happens across the globe by ‘Missionaries’. The work of ‘Missions’ by the Church is both a global and a local effort that seeks to share the good news of salvation with those who need to hear. We are a missional people who cannot separate ourselves from the call God has placed on each believers life to be ‘witnesses.’ In the book of Acts 1:8 the Apostle Paul writes,
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Or better yet we believe God is calling us to be his witnesses in Atwater, in all of Merced county, throughout the state of California and to the ends of the earth.
This is actualized through the way in which we not only profess the truth of the gospel but in the way we live it out on a daily basis. At AtwaterNaz we believe that God wants to use everyone who calls upon his name to be missionaries in their homes, communities, workplaces and schools.
Here are some examples of how we participate as missionaries both locally and globally:
-
Compassion Saturday – Monthly food and clothing distribution on the first Saturday of every month.
-
Work & Witness – We have participated in Work & Witness projects as far away as Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Kenya but we have also sent teams to Los Banos and Oakhurst.
-
Alabaster Offering – The funds raised through Alabaster help to build churches, hospitals and schools around the world.
-
Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Child Sponsorship – We currently sponsor 2 children through NCM. 1 child from Mexico and another from Malawi.
